Roger and his research groups at the University of Liverpool and the Royal Veterinary College in London established tests including serum TLI for pancreatic insufficiency, serum folate and vitamin B12, and an oral permeability test for intestinal disease, and multiplex PCR for pathogenic E.coli.

This research lead to characterisation and development of novel treatments for previously unrecognised conditions, including small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and true dietary sensitivities including gluten-enteropathy.

Roger has over 300 publications, and has given more than 100 presentations to national and international meetings. He has received research awards from the British Small Animal Veterinary Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the University of Zurich, and the University of California, Davis, and in 2008 received lifetime membership of the Comparative Gastroenterology Society in the US in recognition of lifetime achievement in gastroenterology.
